do not blow the art

Why must art be static? You look at an abstraction, sculptured or painted, an entirely exciting arrangement of planes, spheres, nuclei, entirely without meaning. It would be perfect, but it is always still. The next step in sculpture is motion.

Alexander Calder

When we first went in to the Calder exhibit at LACMA, I could not resist blowing on some of the pieces to see if they would move. They did and it was wonderful.

Second time in, we are told, "no blowing on the art, and no photographs".

What a shame, Frank Gehrey not including air movement in this exhibition installation.

Great show, and lucky me, being able to see some in motion.
